Once my plant arrives what should I do?

Since we pick and prepare our plants at the time of shipment, each plant is watered and ready to for its journey home. Once your plant arrives at its new home, give it a good drink of water, and find a sunny well-lit room to take in the sunshine. No need to worry about feeding your new plant. Our plants are grown in custom-blended soils rich in nutrients, which include time-release fertilizer to help nourish them as they grow.

How do I know when it's time to water?

The easiest way to know if your plants need watering is to check the soil. Press your finger into the surface of the soil and check for moisture. If the soil is too dry you should water in an adequate amount proportional to the pot size. Be careful not to over-water the plant or water too frequently. One of the biggest causes of illness and plant death is over-watering.

How much sunlight does my plant require?

All of our indoor plants are grown under indirect sunlight using a specialized fabric that simulates a shady environment by allowing 53-63% of sunlight through. To maintain a similar level of sunlight in your home, find a sun-drenched room and locate your plant in a suitable area away from direct sunlight.  Window glass can sometimes amplify the level of sunlight in a room, so avoid these hot spots as you determine a comfortable spot for your plant.

How often should I feed my plant?

The roots of garden plants will spread through the soil in search of nutrients, but planter-grown houseplants rely on you for the minerals they need. As a rule, plants in containers should be fed regularly during their growing season, which is usually spring through fall. You can use any generic plant food according to the manufacturer’s directions, but always use caution not to over-feed as this can cause root burn and accumulate too many nutrients in your soil. We prefer time-release fertilizers so that your plants receive small amounts of nutrients at every watering.

When is the best time to repot my plant?

Plants typically need repotting every 12 to 18 months, depending on how actively they’re growing. Some plants can live in the same pot for years but require soil replacement using commercially available potting mixes. If you intend to repot your plant, a great time is in spring before the start of the growth season.
